HEALTH AND NUTRITION

Keeping a healthy koi means feeding it with healthy and nutritional foods at the right time. During each of the seasons, different foods are needed for different reasons. During the summer a high protein diet is needed for the long winter. There are many different types of food to feed your koi, such as flake foods, prawn, staple pellets, lettuce, high protein pellets, brown bread, and koi sticks. All these different types of foods are all acceptable for feeding your koi. Only feed as much to your koi that can consume within 3-5 minutes. To maintain good color to the koi, carotene for example can be fed to them to keep the red color, but too much will make the white spots on the fish turn pink. Carotene is a type of algae that can be fed to the fish. Usually people only feed this to their fish one month of the whole year. Live foods are also good for the koi, such as prawn, and maybe even some earthworms. Don't feed your fish anything that has not been mentioned because it may not be nutritional and can cause damage to your fish. Remember not to overfeed as this will pollute the water.
